Gavin's 3rd Bday

After a crazy week of hosting Bri's birthday, going to a birthday and hosting Thanksgiving, Gavin's birthday was actually relaxing ...considering. We bought sandwiches at Costco and I had his cake finished the night before except for placing the decorations on it.  It turned out pretty good. He was really happy with it.

How old are you?

After being Robin for Halloween, I wasn't expecting him to want a Robin cake, but that is what he asked for! So this is what I made him: a chocolate cake with ganache frosting and fondant decorations. Fondant isn't my fave, but it sure makes pretty looking cakes! I should have put him in his Robin costume, that would've been super cute!

I have to include pictures of him and his brothers and sister on Halloween because they looked so cute AND I stayed up many a night working on their costumes until 2am!

I also made two cakes for the school's  fall festival cake walk.  I didn't realize signing up for a cake meant two! Luckily we had some boxed cake mix and chocolate frosting! All I did from scratch was the cream cheese frosting.

Baby Girl's 1st Birthday!

My baby turned one! We had a small party for her with family. I made her a white cake with lemon filling and pink cream cheese frosting. Yum! The cake wasn't as light as I would have liked, but the lemon was perfect.
The tiara on top fell apart before I could get it on the cake :( so I had to use frosting and graham crackers to salvage it. Behind the cake is a small one just for baby to have at it.

And of course, she had to have a birthday outfit. I made up my own "design" based on pictures all over the internet. I used an old onesie for the top and cut off the bottom. The cupcake on the top was thrown together minutes before the party, as was the one for the doll I made.

One of the shoulder bows came off and is hiding out until I am done with this post!

The doll is a Simplicity pattern except for the hair, which was based on ideas from several websites and I did my own thing so that if the hair is pulled back in a ponytail or pigtails it looks good. The Simplicity pattern was for a baby doll with very little hair, but I wanted a full head. Ideally, the whole scalp would have been covered, but it was getting too thick and crazy.

I am so glad it all worked out. Now on to hosting Thanksgiving and another birthday two days later. Wish me luck!

Happy Thanksgiving!!
